MANAGING EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

Be the ‘go to person’ in your organisation for Employment Law and Employee Relations

Joining our Employment Law Summer School you'll gain the expertise and confidence to apply your learning according to the law and best practice. We’ll guide you through the employment journey using case studies and group discussion to illustrate key concepts and provide a framework for you to analyse and apply the law in your workplace.

Come along to our Employee Relations Summer School and return to your workplace able to advise on the law relating to industrial action and understand the key stages in union recognition. You’ll learn about the process of collective bargaining in negotiating employment terms and conditions, and evaluate ongoing developments in information, consultation and employee and trade union involvement in organisations.

Choose either Option 1 or Option 2 PLUS a half-day workshop to equip you to work towards the CIPD Advanced Award in HR – Employment Law and/or the CIPD Advanced Award in HR – Managing Employee Relations

Dates: As per Option 1/Option 2 above. Date of additional half-day workshop to be arranged based on attendee availability

Option 1 + half-day workshop: £690 + VAT
Option 2 + half-day workshop: £1065 + VAT

Learning outcomes

On completion of the Employment Law Summer School, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the core principles that underpin employment law in the UK.
  • Advise others about the legal implications of decisions, plans or proposals relevant to employment.
  • Provide advice to managers and others about action that should be taken in a range of scenarios relevant to employment regulation.
  • Determine the appropriate organisational response when legal action is anticipated, threatened or taken.
  • Understand the fundamental actions needed when preparing, presenting and settling employment tribunal cases.
  • Recognise sources of information available to keep their own knowledge of developments in employment law up to date.


On completion of the Managing Employee Relations Summer School, learners will be able to:

  • Understand different theories and perspectives on employment relations.
  • Recognise local, national and global factors shaping employment relations climates within an organisation.  
  • Identify the roles and functions of different parties within the employment relationship.
  • Support organisational performance by applying knowledge and skills relevant to the design and implementation of policies and practices in: employee engagement; diversity management; employee communication, involvement and participation, negotiation and bargaining; conflict resolution; and change management and management control.
  • Mitigate organisational risk through the appropriate design and implementation of policies and practices in the areas of discipline, grievance, dismissal and redundancy.
  • Recognise the importance of integrating employment relations processes into other aspects of organisational policy, practice and outcomes such as performance and employee engagement.
     

ORGANISATION DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT & ORGANISATIONAL LEARNING

Take your knowledge and skills in ODD and Knowledge Management to the next level.

  • Join us for 2-days of Organisational Design and Development and/or 2-days of Knowledge Management and Organisational Learning
  • Take away practical ODD and Knowledge Management and OL tools and techniques
  • Join us for an optional additional ½ day workshop and study for the CIPD Advanced Award in HR – Organisational Design and Development and/or Knowledge Management and Organisational Learning (you must have attended the appropriate summer school days)

A perfect opportunity to enhance your skills in the areas of ODD and Knowledge Management and OL. Learning outcomes

On completion of the Organisation Design and Development summer school, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the historical and theoretical basis of organisation design and development and their context in terms of value and contribution to organisational life.
  • Identify and use available design options regarding organisational structures and relationships.
  • Identify and implement processes and systems that need to maintain such structures and relationships, and evaluate these.
  • Use methods and procedures of organisation development and review their strategic impact.
  • Use OD strategies to support the management of change.
  • Understand organisation culture, norms and behaviours.
  • Recognise the importance of HR’s role in advising on OD choices and be able to support their implementation.

On completion of the Knowledge Management and Organisational Learning summer school, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the meanings of knowledge management and organisational learning and associated theories.
  • Use a range of applications of these concepts in organisational practices.
  • Use knowledge management strategies and programmes that promote, facilitate and exploit processes of organisational learning, taking account of the organisational context.
  • Implement knowledge management strategies and processes to support and facilitate organisational learning with the engagement and support of other professionals and managers.
  • Demonstrate commitment to equality of opportunity and diversity and continuous personal and professional development in the context of knowledge management and organisational learning
