Level 3 Apprenticeship - Team Leader/Supervisor
A team leader/supervisor holds a first line management role with operational or project responsibilities, or they may manage a team with responsibility for delivering outcomes, achieved through their direction and guidance.
Managers work in all organisational sizes and sectors and whilst their key responsibilities will differ, their knowledge, skills and behaviours are generic and include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, solving problems and building internal and external relationships.
Team Leader/Supervisor apprentices may be aspiring to move into a first line management role, or may already be in a management position but needing to develop their skills and understanding.
The employer will determine any eligibility criteria for the apprenticeship, such as GCSEs or level of experience and where the individual doesn’t already hold maths and English at Level 2 as a minimum, they will need to achieve this by the time their apprenticeship comes to an end.
The duration of the apprenticeship programme is usually 12 to 18 months and depends on the apprentice’s previous experience and existing level of knowledge.
Whilst the apprenticeship standard for Team Leader/Supervisor doesn’t specify a mandatory qualification as part of the programme, cHRysos HR is able to offer the CMI Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Principles of Management and Leadership and apprentices may wish to further their career and professional development by registering with CMI as an Associate member once their programme is completed.
Level 5 Apprenticeship - Operations/Departmental Manager
An Operations/Departmental Manager can be found in any size organisation in the private, public or third sector. Their roles and job titles will vary but the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to be an effective manager will be the same.
They will typically be involved in creating and delivering operational plans, managing projects, leading and managing teams, managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, coaching and mentoring.
Apprentices may be aspiring to move into an Operations/Departmental Manager role, or may already have some experience as a manager but needing to develop skills in this area.
The Operations/Departmental Manager apprenticeship does not specify that a mandatory qualification should be completed as part of the programme, however, cHRysos HR offers the CMI Level 5 Certificate/Diploma in Management and Leadership as an option.
The apprenticeship takes 2 to 3 years to complete, depending on the whether the apprentice has previously undertaken the Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor apprenticeship, or has some existing experience, and requirements for participating in the programme are determined by the employer.
Apprentices must however, have achieved level 2 maths and English by the time the apprenticeship is completed.
On completion, individuals can apply to become a full Member of the CMI, and with three years’ management experience an application can be made for Chartered Manager status.
