Stepping Up for Sight Support: Our Team Walking Challenge

As a team, we are always looking for ways to stay connected, support one another, and give back to our local community. This spring, we’re bringing all three together through a new wellbeing and fundraising initiative.

In the lead-up to our next team event on Friday, 15th May (taking place in the Doncaster area), we’re taking on a collective walking challenge in support of Sight Support, who are a fantastic charity that has been helping people across Hull and East Yorkshire living with sight loss since 1864.

The Challenge

Each participating team member will commit to walking 48 miles over 38 days, starting from 7th April and finishing on 14th May. This distance represents the average journey our team will take to reach our event venue, so by completing the challenge, we’ll symbolically “arrive” together, one step at a time.

As a virtual team, we don’t work from the same location day-to-day, which makes this challenge both an individual and a shared experience. Each person will be walking in their own local area, tracking their own miles, while also contributing to our wider team goal and a great cause.

Breaking it down, that’s less than 1.5 miles per day (around 3,500 steps), making it an achievable goal that encourages us all to get outdoors, stretch our legs, and take a mindful break from our desks.

Supporting Wellbeing and Community

While the challenge is simple, the benefits are far-reaching. It’s designed to:

  • Encourage regular movement and physical activity
  • Support mental wellbeing through time spent outdoors
  • Strengthen connections across our virtual team
  • Raise awareness and support for a meaningful local cause

Participation is entirely voluntary, but those taking part will be tracking every mile they walk, whether it’s a lunchtime stroll, an evening unwind, or a weekend wander.

Giving Back

We are proud to be supporting Sight Support through this initiative, and any sponsorship or contributions will go directly towards helping them continue their vital work in the Hull and East Riding community.

We will also be sharing weekly progress updates within the team, keeping motivation high as we work towards our collective goal.

We’re excited to take on this challenge together (individually and as a team) and make a positive impact for both our well-being and people living with sight loss. Every step really does count. 👣
