CIPD Advanced Award in Human Resources

Who is the programme aimed at?

The Advanced Award in Human Resources is suitable for those who:

  • are responsible for HR/L&D decision making within an organisation at an operational, tactical or more strategic level
  • have responsibility for the HR/L&D function and activities within an organisation
  • are working as an independent or employed HRM/L&D consultant, supporting organisations in meeting their goals

CIPD Advanced Award in HR will help you develop the depth of your knowledge in chosen areas. You will learn how to develop and implement creative and strategic HR/L&D solutions that enhance organisational performance, as well as developing your understanding of organisations and the context within which HR and L&D operates.

What units will I study?

The full list of units is set out below.  Which of these you study will depend on your study mode: Online distance learning or Work-based.

Each unit carries 15 credits and to achieve the Award you need to complete one unit.

How will the programme be delivered?

The online distance learning programme is delivered using our online learning platform that gives you lots of flexibility to study when and where you wish.  You will have access to a range of learning materials on the learning platform, along with online tutorials and a group session with others studying the same unit as you.  You will be supported throughout by our qualified tutor-assessors.

For the work-based study route you will be allocated an Assessor to work with you throughout the programme. How you will be assessed depends on your chosen unit.

What is the duration of the programme?

You will have up to two years to complete the qualification but because the programme is so flexible, you can work at your own pace within this timeframe.

How will the qualification be assessed?

How you are assessed will depend on which unit you choose to complete. 

The 2 units ‘Human Resource Management in Context’ and ‘Leading, Managing and Developing People’ are assessed by exams and support is provided to help you prepare for this.

For the unit ‘Investigating a Business Issue from a Human Resource Perspective’ you are required to complete a 7000 word report.  We will assign a tutor to support you with this.

The unit ‘Developing Skills for Business Leadership’ focuses on your Continuing Professional Development and you will build a portfolio to evidence your continuous learning.
