CIPD Advanced Certificate in Human Resources
Who is the programme aimed at?
The Advanced Certificate in Human Resources is suitable for those who:
- are responsible for HR/L&D decision making within an organisation at an operational, tactical or more strategic level
- have responsibility for the HR/L&D function and activities within an organisation
- are working as an independent or employed HRM/L&D consultant, supporting organisations in meeting their goals
- aspire to become a Chartered member of CIPD.

CIPD Advanced Certificate is a professional qualification recognised by employers and other HR professionals. The qualification will help you develop your breadth of knowledge and specialise in chosen areas. You will learn how to develop and implement creative and strategic HR/L&D solutions that enhance organisational performance, as well as developing your understanding of organisations and the context within which HR and L&D operates.
What units will I study?
The full list of units is set out below. Which of these you study will depend on your study mode: Online distance learning or Work-based.
Each unit carries 15 credits and to achieve the Certificate you need to complete 60 credits.

How will the programme be delivered?
The online distance learning programme is delivered using our online learning platform that gives you lots of flexibility to study when and where you wish. You will have access to a range of learning materials on the learning platform, along with online tutorials and group sessions with others studying the same programme as you. You will be supported throughout by our qualified tutor-assessors.
For the work-based study route you will be allocated an Assessor to work with you throughout the programme. To achieve the units you will undertake a range of activities including gathering work-based evidence, written statements and assignments.
What is the duration of the programme?
You will have up to two years to complete the qualification but because the programme is so flexible, you can work at your own pace within this timeframe.
How will the qualification be assessed?
Assessment will be by a range of activities including assignments, and in the case of the distance learning programme there will also be workbooks and other activities to comlete.
The 2 units ‘Human Resource Management in Context’ and ‘Leading, Managing and Developing People’ are assessed by exams and support will be provided to help you prepare for this.
For the unit ‘Investigating a Business Issue from a Human Resource Perspective’ you will need to complete a 7000 word report. We will assign a tutor to support you with this.
The unit ‘Developing Skills for Business Leadership’ focuses on your Continuing Professional Development and throughout your programme you will build a portfolio to evidence your continuous learning.
Once you have successfully completed the qualification, you will be upgraded to Associate member of the CIPD.
