I read an article today that reported on a survey published by the job website Monster.com and consultancy firm Millennial Branding – I was really surprised to find that the survey claims Generation Y employees – generally workers aged 18 to 29 – feel they are more risk averse and less entrepreneurial than older workers. I find this so surprising because they are the first generation to be born and brought up without ‘life before the computer.’ They come into the world ‘tweeting’ their arrival and find themselves in the midst of a massive communications boom that lends itself to risk and entrepreneurialism; starting a new business is not nearly as difficult as it used to be.

Changes to employment award limits – 1st February 2013
The Employment Rights (Increase of Limits) Order 2012 brought changes from 1st February 2013 to the limit set for the amount of compensatory award payable for most cases of unfair dismissal. The limit has increased from £72,300 to £74,200.

In The Telegraph this week, career coach Jeremy I’Anson writes about the importance of Graduates having work experience to enhance their chances of finding a job. Competition for graduate jobs is huge and it’s no surprise that L’Anson points out research that shows graduates have a far greater chance of getting a job if they have had some work experience – especially if they are applying for a job with the same employer that they had that work experience with.
