Top Ten Tips for... Boosting Fitness and Wellbeing

Did you know that National Fitness Day is on September 24th? We often talk about the importance of mental wellbeing, but physical health also plays a big part in this. Making time for movement, rest and balance can have a huge impact on how we feel day to day.

National Fitness Day is a great reminder to check in with our habits and see where we can make small but positive changes. To get you started, we’ve put together our top tips for keeping healthy.

   1. Little and often

Short bursts of movement throughout the day such as a brisk walk or a quick workout all add up. Consistency is more important than duration, and even 15 minutes of activity can boost your energy and focus.

   2. Find what you enjoy

Fitness shouldn’t feel like a chore. Whether it’s swimming, weightlifting or dancing, choosing an activity you really enjoy makes it much easier to stay motivated. When you enjoy the movement, it becomes something you look forward to, not just something added to your to do list.

   3. Fuel your body

What you eat and drink plays a big part in how you feel during exercise and recovery. Aim for balanced meals and don’t forget to stay hydrated. A well fuelled body has more energy, stamina and resilience. It also plays a key part in mental wellbeing!

   4. Stay active during the day

Movement happens all throughout the day. Taking the stairs, going for a walk on your lunch break and stretching between tasks are all ways to build activity into your daily routine. Small changes improve your fitness and keep your energy levels steady.

   5. Find a workout buddy

Exercising with a friend make activity more enjoyable. A workout buddy can keep you motivated, help you to stay consistent and it provides a social boost that improves your mental wellbeing too.

   6. Use physical activity to manage stress

Exercise is a great way to relieve stress. Activities like running, swimming or even a fast-paced walk can help release stress and boost your mood. It’s a natural way to clear your head and reset after a busy day.

   7. Celebrate your achievements

Recognising your progress builds confidence and motivation. Celebrate your small wins along the way, as they are proof of your commitment and growth!

   8. Practice mindful movement

Yoga and Pilates help to calm the mind, improve focus and reduce stress, while supporting flexibility and strength. This activity combines physical exercise with relaxation/meditation, which is a great way to improve your physical and mental health.

   9. Track your progress

Keeping a log of your activity helps you see how far you have come. Tracking progress is a great way to boost motivation and remind you that small steps make the biggest difference over time.

   10. Remember Balance

Fitness is about progress! Balance more intense workouts with rest days, healthy eating with occasional treats and exercise with time for relaxation. A balanced approach means you are more likely to stay consistent and makes healthy living sustainable.
